The Co-op is supporting this year's Fairtrade Fortnight, which will highlight the harmful effects climate change is having on the world's food production.

This year's events will run from February 27 to March 12 and will shine a light on the growing climate emergency, which is affecting the foods we love and the communities who produce them.

Some of our favourite products such as bananas, cocoa and coffee are at risk due to climate change, but by choosing Fairtrade products in store, we can make a difference.

By choosing Fairtrade products, you are doing your bit to support farmers and growers in the world's poorest nations.

What's on in Sidmouth

Sidmouth's local fairtrade group will be marking Fairtrade Fortnight with events including a library display and coffee morning.

The coffee morning will take place on Saturday 4 March from 10.30am to 12.30pm at the town's library. All are welcome to come along and find out more over refreshments and homemade cake.

The library display will run throughout the fortnight.

Sidmouth Fair Trade Group coordinator Wendy Spratling said: "The simple message is: whatever your budget and wherever you shop, when you choose Fairtrade, you support farmers to take care of the environment through guaranteed prices and the communal Fairtrade Premium."

'By choosing Fairtrade, you can support producers on the frontline of the climate crisis'

The Co-op has been supporting the Fairtrade movement for 29 years. The company believes that if everyone makes a choice to buy Fairtrade, we can overcome unfairness in the food chain and have a meaningful impact.

Cate Hickey, Fairtrade Manager at Co-op said: "The world is facing a climate crisis – it is affecting the foods we love and the communities who produce them.

"But by choosing Fairtrade, you can support producers on the frontline of the climate crisis and help to protect the future of our food.

"At Co-op, Fairtrade is core to our vision of co-operating for a fairer world. Co-op's commitment to Fairtrade means producers are provided with better incomes and training to adapt to climate challenges.

"You can take part in Fairtrade Fortnight by simply choosing Fairtrade, by spreading the word or by hosting a Fairtrade Fortnight event. Together, we can champion Fairtrade. Remember, what you put in your basket can make a positive change to lives around the world and the planet we love."
