Covid-19: People in 20s test positive more than any other age group in East Devon

New figures showing the breakdown of positive COVID-19 cases by age group and local authority area have finally been released by the Government.

The figures, concerning positive cases reported this week - Thursday, October 22 to Tuesday, October 27 - show that in Devon the 20-29 age group are seeing the highest number of cases.

In the Devon County Council there were 593 cases between the above dates. The percentage of people who tested positive for Covid-19, broken down by age, are as follows:

Over 60s: 14.5 per cent (86 cases)

50 to 59-year-olds: 14 per cent (85 cases)

40 to 49-year-olds: 8 per cent (49 cases)

30 to 39-year-olds: 11 per cent (67 cases)

20 to 29-year-olds: 28 per cent (171 cases)

10 to 19-year-olds: 19 per cent (112 cases)

0 to 9-year-olds: 3.5 per cent (22 cases)

In East Devon there were 121 cases. The breakdown is as follows:

Over 60s: 13 per cent (16 cases)

50 to 59-year-olds: 18 per cent (22 cases)

40 to 49-year-olds: 12 per cent (15 cases)

30 to 39-year-olds: 11 per cent (14 cases)

20 to 29-year-olds: 28 per cent ( 34 cases)

10 to 19-year-olds: 15.5 per cent (13 cases)

0 to 9-year-olds: 6 per cent (7 cases)

Health Secretary Matt Hancock told BBC Radio 4 that Downing Street will be looking at the rate of new Covid-19 cases, the number of people with the virus in the over 60s age range, hospitalisations, and deaths related to coronavirus, when assessing which tiers to put areas into lockdown.
