Help! I've fallen off the fitness bandwagon

New Year has been and gone, and January has stretched on for about 649 days (or so it feels).

Your mojo packed up and left weeks ago, it's dark, cold, and raining, and you have a list of excuses longer than your arm saying why you can't go to the gym today.

But that's OK; you aren't the only one! Research shows only 8% of us keep our resolutions going throughout the year.

If you do want to get back on track though, here are a few handy tips to get your enthusiasm and motivation back again.

1. Buddy up

Find a like-minded friend and workout alongside them. You're more likely to keep to your fitness plans if there's a social aspect to it too, so swap your weekly gin for the gym.

  1. Be realistic

Sorry for being the bearer of bad news, but you won't go from a couch potato to marathon runner in three weeks. Set yourself realistic goals; you'll be far more motivated if you know you can achieve something.

  1. Try new things
Gym not working out for you? Can't find a buddy who wants to workout with you? Try a class instead! You can mix it up and find a class that suits you, be it dance, yoga, strength training, HIIT, or anything else. Classes are a great way to keep motivated and you will likely come away with a whole group of new friends. Remember, not all exercise has to be high energy or cardio based – flexibility and strength training is sometimes just as effective, or at least a good base to start.

Whatever you decide to do, try and keep at it. And if you need some friendly advice or a fun, supportive place to exercise and reach your goals, get in touch. Hope to see you at the LC Fitness studio soon!
