Local surfer, Esmée Gregorius, is organising a 'Storm Clean' on Salcombe Regis beach, in conjunction with the national beach cleaning efforts of Surfers Against Sewage.

The event will take place on Sunday, 9 February from 11am - 12.30pm.

As Esmée advises, Salcombe Regis beach is 'not the most accessible location' and people should only come if they are fit enough for the walk there.

Once on location, volunteers will have their work cut-out with lots of debris needing removing from the shore line.

Winter beach cleans are an important factor in improving the cleanliness of the coastline, due to the stormy weather churning up more rubbish from the sea, which then ends up deposited on the beach.

Plastic, and other types of waste are not only unsightly, but also pose a real threat to wildlife and people using the beach.

Anyone keen to get involved with the group effort should meet on the beach near the steps.

There is limited parking available in the village, or at the top of the hill in the National Trust car park.
