POLICE UPDATE: woman airlifted to hospital following crash near Branscombe

A collision involving a car and a lorry has blocked the A3052 from Seaton Road to B3174 Hollyhead Road causing major disruption to traffic in the area.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at around 10.25am to reports of a collision involving a lorry and a car on the A3052 near Branscombe.

"Fire and ambulance services have also been called to the scene.

"The female driver of the car has been airlifted to Derriford Hospital with serious injuries.

"The driver of the lorry has been taken to hospital to be checked over."

Two fire appliances from Sidmouth and Middlemoor along with the Rescue Tender from Middlemoor attended the above location after reports of a road traffic collision with persons trapped inside.

Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue released this statement: "On arrival crews found one a two vehicle collision with one person trapped.

"Crews quickly got to work using hydraulic equipment and small tools to release the person trapped.

"Crews were also assisted by ambulance and police personnel.

"Both drivers were conveyed to hospital and the incident was handed over to police."

The road remains closed at this time and motorists are advised to avoid the area.
