Should residents' parking zones be introduced in Sidford?

People in Sidford are being asked if they would support the introduction of resident parking restrictions in the area.

A second round of consultation has been launched by Devon County Council after residents reported problems with on-street parking.

The initial consultation, back in June 2018, showed some support for the introduction of residents' parking in some areas of Sidford, and that December the East Devon Highways and Traffic Orders Committee decided to run a separate consultation in the Sidford area to better understand the views of residents in the area.

That process has now been launched, and the council is now asking people living in Jubilee Gardens, Byes Close, Byes Lane, Warrens Mead, Orchard Close, South Lawn, Drakes Avenue, Lockyer Avenue and Fleming Avenue if they would support the introduction of parking restrictions in the area, although there are no detailed proposals at this stage.

In the initial consultation in 2018, only those in Drakes Avenue and South Lawn were in favour of residents' parking, although with a high level of support for the principle. People in the other areas said they generally did not support the idea.

The proposal would be to introduce a combination of the residents' parking restrictions where only vehicles with permits can park, and some limited waiting zones to enable some shorter stay non-permit parking for local facilities.

The informal consultation will run until Friday, July 2, with all residents within the proposed boundary having received an information postcard on the proposals.

The consultation responses will be summarised and all comments submitted will be considered by a future meeting of the East Devon Highway and Traffic Orders Committee.

After the committee has decided whether to move forward with residents' parking in the area, there will be a further consultation on detailed proposals.

Responses can be sent to Traffic Management Team, Devon County Council, Great Moor House, Bittern Road, Exeter, EX2 7NL, or submitted online here.
