An elderly woman has been flown to hospital by air ambulance after an accident in Sidmouth.

Police were called to Manstone Lane at about 1pm on Wednesday, September 8 to reports of an accident involving a woman and a car.

Paramedics also attended and the air ambulance was tasked to fly her to Derriford Hospital, with injuries believed to be serious.

A spokesperson for Devon Air Ambulance said: "We flew out of our Exeter airbase to attend an elderly lady who was reported to have been hit by a vehicle.

"The lady was treated at the scene by our critical care team and then conveyed to Derriford Hospital by the air ambulance."

The incident came just a few days after another visit by Devon Air Ambulance to Sidmouth. Last Thursday the helicopter landed in The Byes after being called to the aid of a woman in a nearby location; she was treated by paramedics but was not flown to hospital.
