Sidmouth's Norman Lockyer Observatory is now set to reopen this week after being closed for two years due to the pandemic.

Stargazers will be able to attend its first event this Thursday 27 January at 7.15pm on the topic of 'winter constellations' followed by a planetarium show and tour to see its historic telescope with a viewing if the skies are clear.

There is no need to book and prices are £10 for adults, £5 for children, and £25 for a family of two adults and two children.

The observatory plans to open fortnightly over the next few months.

Members have reportedly refurbished the entrance hall, and there is a new ticket office and together with improved interactive displays and screens.

The observatory is in need of volunteers to host open evenings and group visits - and youngsters are encouraged to join its 'Astroscouts' programme.
