Sidmouth Museum holds free event for children
As part of their plan to engage with more young people, volunteers from the Sid Vale Association's museum organised a very successful Fun In The Sun event on the tennis courts just behind the museum.
A steady stream of families joined the free event where they could explore some of the museum's fossils, have their picture taken dressed as Victorian characters, play fishing games, and even splat-a-rat.
Members of the Sid Valley Biodiversity Group joined in with a table piled with some of the seaweeds to be found on Chit Rocks. Children loved handling the rubbery fronds while being told about these amazing plants.
The volunteers hope to organise another free event during the school half term break in October.
The pictures show Ed Dolphin, from the bio-diversity group showing young Milo (10), Ophelia (8) and Tallulah (5) some facts about seaweed, Abi (4) a mournful Villian was wet sponged by granddad, and Bea (4) was engrossed in finding a fossil. James our able volunteer enjoyed a game of Snap! with Woody (7) and Emme (8).
A fun day was had by all. Thanks are due to all our volunteers who helped both on the day and behind the scenes; especially Ann Tanner, our curator, who all enable us to have a fun day in the sun. Look out for another Sidmouth Museum Fun Day in October half term 2022.
