An annual ban excluding dogs from a large area of Sidmouth's beaches is set to take effect from Sunday 1 May.

The ban will be in force up to and including 30 September - meaning the next time you can walk your dog in the specified areas will be from 1 October.

Dogs are allowed on the district's beaches for the rest of the year, but are banned all year round in certain locations such as children's play areas maintained by East Devon District Council. In addition, dogs are only allowed on a lead on Sidmouth Esplanade.

Where are the dog exclusion areas exactly?

The dog exclusion area stretches from just beyond the Sidmouth Independent Lifeboat Station along Sidmouth Town Beach and covers a portion of Jacob's Ladder Beach. The ban also includes parts of the beaches at Budleigh Salterton, Exmouth, Seaton, and Beer.
