Local East Devon residents have got together to form a walking group for those for whom autism/Asperger's is their prime diagnosis, or for those who identify as such. You don't need a diagnosis to join in.

Sidmouth resident and walk leader, Liz Slater explains, "The aim is to get together with like-minded people to share our experiences whilst exploring the delights of Sidmouth. Many Aspies find that within our own groups we can drop our masks and express ourselves without apology or explanation."

Co-founder of the group, Jo Hall from Newton Poppleford, said, "It is a relief to find like-minded people. We share coping strategies and examples of helpful services, forming our own supportive community."

Providing professional support to the group, Kevin Hickson of Sidmouth says that the walks will take place on the first Friday of each month, meeting at 11am and walking from The Triangle Bus Terminus in Sidmouth. The walks will last approximately two hours and include a refreshment break. There is no need to book, just turn up, meet with Liz, Jo and Kevin at the shelter on The Triangle. You will receive a warm welcome.

We are aware of COVID-19 restrictions and will follow the latest restrictions and guidance when we meet and walk.

Liz is clear, the group is run and led by people with autism, for people with autism. See you on Friday 7th January for the first walk of the year. Don't worry if you miss the first one. We'll meet up at the same place on the first Friday of every month for a different walk.
