This Saturday a special event is being held in Ottery St Mary to celebrate everything the town has to offer.

Showcase Ottery has been set up by a 'very small' committee of independent volunteers with the aim of allowing local businesses, charities, groups and organisations to showcase what they do.

The event, being held at the Land Of Canaan recreation area on Saturday, July 20, is being sponsored by Otter Garden Centre, Paul Fudge and the marquees will be provided by Gilbert Stephens.

Event secretary, Jill Courtney, told Sidmouth Nub News: "It's a very tight budget, but it is only the first year. There's been loads and loads of interest. Fifty plots have been taken up which coincides with the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11. Our theme!

"Hopefully the public will find something of interest all day. As it's an event for all the community, we are encouraging people to move off at the end of OUR event, to support the Fete at Ottery Primary School which is going on until 6pm."

The event starts at 10am and will finish at roughly 4pm. In the early afternoon there will be music from Ottery St Mary Silver Band.

The will be a martial arts display from Ottery Taekwondo at 2pm. At 2.30pm there will be entertainment from Ottery's Urban Flow Dance troop.

At 3pm the Rotary Club will be putting on a charity duck race.

A bouncy castle and assault course will be on offer all day and drinks will be available from Courtney's Cider Bar.

Students from Kings School will be raising funds for an upcoming trip to India and Ottery's Carnival Committee will be hosting a BBQ. Coldharbour Farm will also be selling food.

There will be stalls from Ottery St Mary's Men's Shed, the Silver Otter, Arc Pottery, Trow Farm Fudge, Ottery Twinning Association, Sarah's Creations, Hospice Care Magpies, face painting, Baby Boutique, Ottery Primary School, a painting exhibition from Kate Kimber, Hypnotherapist Deborah Pierce, Ottery Help Scheme, Ottery's Climate Change Working Group, Force Cancer Research, Purple Balm Nursing Agency, Shading Solutions, Ottery Taekwondo, Gilbert Stephens Solicitors, Ottery Football Club, Inner Wheel, Tankland, Ottery Travel, the Royal British Legion, Ottery Office and Computers and many more.
