A chicken coop, shed and hedgerow have been destroyed in a fire near Ottery St Mary today.

Firefighters were called to Metcombe, near Tipton St John, at around 10.45am today after reports of a garden fire.

When firefighters arrived at the property the fire, involving a chicken coop and a hedgerow, had spread to a nearby shed.

Once firefighters extinguished the blaze using a hose reel jet and compressed air foam it was clear the fire was caused by accident.

The chicken coop, the shed and the hedgerow were completely 'destroyed' by the fire.
