Newton Poppleford Pavilion has been awarded £2,000 from East Devon District Council's Community Building Fund.

The grant will help pay for replacing the pavilion's windows, doors and other woodwork, some of which is rotten. The work will make the hall more energy-efficient and improve security.

The Community Buildings Fund is a grants scheme run by the district council to support village halls, community shops and other buildings. It is generally used for small, practical improvements such as better toilets and kitchen facilities, roof repairs, heating and door fixtures.

Five community buildings have been awarded funding in the latest allocation; the others are Beer Albion Football Club, Colyford Memorial Hall, Exton village hall and West Hill Royal British Legion Hall.

Councillor Jack Rowland, East Devon District Council's Chair of the Community Grants Panel, said:

"On behalf of the EDDC Community Grants Panel we were pleased to support these applications, as they all demonstrated exactly the reasons why these grants were made available.

"In these particularly difficult times it is vitally important that facilities such as these are maintained and improved in readiness for the time when the communities can make full use of them again."

There is still a small amount of funding left in the pot that can be applied for by 9am on Monday, March 15.

The total amount available to give out is just under £2,200 and applications can be made here
