Help celebrate The Donkey Sanctuary's 50th anniversary with the inaugural 'Dawdle for Donkeys' fundraising walk. It is the perfect way to get out and about with family and friends to enjoy the beautiful countryside surrounding the Sidmouth sanctuary and raise vital funds to help donkeys and mules in need.

Held on Saturday, June 15, the route takes in stunning views over the world famous Jurassic Coast and gives people the chance to meet many of the friendly resident donkeys in their paddocks, showing how the money raised directly helps improve their lives The walk is split between a family-friendly five kilometre ramble, or a more adventurous 10 kilometre course.

There will be lots going on throughout the morning, including face-painting and donkey ear making, with a fun group warm-up session taking place at 10am. The 10km walk then gets underway at 10.15am followed soon after by the shorter 5km walk. There will be pit stops for refreshments, entertainment and activities around the route.

John Crouch, visitor engagement manager at The Donkey Sanctuary said: "Whether you fancy a gentle stroll or a more challenging romp, the backdrop of the donkeys, summer flowers and Devon's finest scenery promises to deliver an idyllic experience."

Medals will be presented to everyone who takes part in the walk, then there will be time to purchase a take-away from a selection of street food traders, visit The Kitchen restaurant or enjoy a picnic in the surroundings of the sanctuary.

To sign-up for the Donkey Dawdle 5km or 10km charity challenge, please visit bray.news/dawdle or call 01395 573156. The cost for adults is £10 per person, with under 16s free. Corporate teams, with unlimited numbers are also welcome and cost £50. Suggested sponsorship targets are £50 for individuals and £500 per corporate team.

All individuals that reach their suggested sponsorship target will be entered into a draw to win a two-hour VIP experience for up to four people at The Donkey Sanctuary. Every penny raised will directly help donkeys in need.

Special events are being held throughout 2019 to celebrate The Donkey Sanctuary's 50th anniversary. This milestone is an opportunity to both look back on the charity's landmark achievements and take stock of the massive challenges in a world where the suffering of animals remains abhorrent.

Since its foundation by Dr Elisabeth Svendsen in 1969, The Donkey Sanctuary has grown from a charity rescuing UK donkeys from neglect and abuse, to an international welfare organisation transforming the lives of millions of donkeys and mules, and the people who depend on them for a living.
