East Devon District Council has advised against bathing at Sidmouth Town Beach today (Thursday 8 September) after a pollution risk warning was issued by the Environment Agency.

No warning for Sidmouth has been issued by charity Surfers Against Sewage, but there has reportedly been a sewage discharge at Budleigh Salterton in the past 48 hours.

Signs advising against bathing have been displayed at Seaton, Sidmouth Town, and Budleigh Salterton beaches.

An East Devon District Council spokesperson said: "The Environment Agency (EA) alert advises against bathing in Seaton, Sidmouth Town and Budleigh Salterton due to pollution resulting from the recent heavy rain.

"We advise everyone to stay out of the water while the warning is in force.

"We hope bathing will be open again tomorrow."
