Baking, dancing, table tennis and egg and spoon races are among the activities laid on at Doveleigh Care homes in Sidmouth, Seaton and Colyton to provide exercise and fun for the residents.

The activities also keep the residents motivated and independent, according to Samantha Evens, the Senior Manager of Doveleigh Care Ltd, which runs Arcot House in Sidmouth and Dove Court in Seaton.

She said: "We have egg and spoon races, baking – which is good exercise for the fingers – and table tennis, for which some sit and some like to stand.

"We play a bean bag game and we have a parachute which a good team effort. The staff run under it and the residents love this and have lots of laughter.

"We also have dancing – you're never too old to get up and show off some moves. Flexercise with music is always good - we have two residents who used to be an exercise teacher and a yoga teacher. They like to take the lead at times."
