An important Exit Poll carried out for the BBC by Ipsos MORI has predicted that the Conservative Party will lose the East Devon constituency in today's General Election.

The BBC's Exit Poll Constituency Finder describes the East Devon seat result as: "Likely Others gain from Conservative. 96% chance."

The East Devon constituency has been under Conservative control for 150 years but that may change, if the results of this poll are correct.

The seat has been held by Conservative Sir Hugo Swire since 2001. In the run up to the election Sir Hugo announced his intention to stand down at the election. Former journalist Simon Jupp then became the Conservative candidate for the area.

Mr Jupp will be competing in this December's General Election against Independent Claire Wright, the Labour Party's Daniel Wilson, Liberal Democrat Eleanor Rylance, Green Henry Gent and Independent Peter Faithful.

While the BBC Exit Poll does not specify which candidate will take the seat, Independent Claire Wright has been widely touted as Mr Jupp's closest competitor.
