Fire report following vehicle blaze on Barrack Road

A fire appliance from Ottey St Mary was called out to deal with a car that had caught on fire, causing the entire vehicle to become engulfed with flames and thick, black smoke.

The incident took place yesterday (February 4) on Barrack Road, just down from the roundabout on Daisymount at approximately 4.15pm.

Ottery St Mary Police were also called in to assist with the incident and the road remained closed while recovery efforts took place.

No one is reported to have been injured in the incident.

According to Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue: "One fire appliance from Ottery St Mary was sent to a report of a vehicle on fire on Barrack Road near Ottery St Mary. .

"On arrival crews confirmed that the car was well alight.

"The vehicle was 100% damaged by fire and to deal with the incident crews used two breathing apparatus and one compressed air foam jet."
