Firefighters were called to Sidmouth to deal with kitchen fire at the home of an 'elderly' Sidmouth resident yesterday (March 22).

Fire crews from Sidmouth, Ottery St Mary and Exmouth were initially sent to the scene on Manor Road.

Crews were called at around 10.40am after reports that an elderly person was unable get out of the house.

When firefighters from Sidmouth arrived at the scene they found the fire had been caused by an unattended pan left on the cooker and that the occupant was not home.

As a result fire crews from Ottery St Mary and Exmouth were told to return to station as 'their services were not required'.

Firefighters forced entry into the flat and extinguished the fire before making the scene safe and ventilating the property.

When the occupant arrived home firefighters issued them with safety advice. The fire was under control at around 11.30am.
