Giant deckchair unveiled on Sidmouth Esplanade
A giant deckchair has been unveiled in Sidmouth today to provide visitors with a new attraction and a great place to take an iconic picture of the town.
The giant deckchair was installed on the Esplanade by Sidmouth Town Council with help from East Devon District Council.
As well as providing a new feature for Sidmouth Esplanade the deckchair is branded with the hashtag #visitsidmouth, encouraging visitors to share their pictures on social media.
Louise Thompson, Vice Chair of Sidmouth Town Council's Tourism and Economy Committee, explained: "The idea was to try and do something immediate and high impact for Season 2019, whilst the Tourism and Economy committee work on the long term strategy for season 2020 and beyond.
"The giant deckchair was a project we could turn around quickly and is a perfect fit with the classy and classic seaside vibe we have for Sidmouth as a fantastic tourist destination.
"The giant deckchair will initially be positioned in a very photogenic spot - just at the Clifton Walkway end of the Esplanade - with our beautiful red cliffs behind.
"The deckchair is branded with the hashtag #visitsidmouth to encourage social shares on Facebook and Instagram that we can track and measure. It's something visual and fun we hope will appeal to all ages."
The chair will be available for local events, festivals and local businesses and the town council is excited to see how it will be received by the locals and tourists alike.
