A new pop-up takeaway service is offering mouthwatering middle eastern cuisine to the people of the Sid Valley, all made by a certified Master Chef.

The Shawarma Stop, which opened for business on Wednesday, is the brainchild of Ed McLachlan, a certified Master Chef of Great Britain, and his wife Nikkie.

The menu offers a variety of different shawarmas, a Middle Eastern wrap, with a range of meat and non-meat options. A smorgasbord of tasty sides are also on offer including: french fries with smokey spices; a BBQ vegetable and halloumi kebab pot; a mezze of fresh pita, smoked hummus and Arabic style tzatziki and an iceberg kebab sesame salad.

"I have worked for the Royal Family in Abu Dhabi for the last three years, travelling around the world with the Sheikh. I fly out to Abu Dhabi every two weeks to cook for the Royal family and then fly back to Devon to spend two weeks here.

"We fancied trying out something locally and we both love the street food trend but we don't fancy living in London.

"Our customers can expect lots of smokey garlic, slow cooked meat, grilled meats, lots of herbs and spices, vibrant salads and restaurant style sides. It's just a little bit of a few of my favourite things from around the world and I've put them together with an Arabic fusion twist."

Located in Sidford, Drake's Avenue, the Shawarma Stop offers Arabic Fusion cuisine, with an emphasis on gourmet kebabs.

Ed is a private Master Chef to Arabic royalty in the Middle East, more specifically in Abu Dhabi and the United Arab Emirates.

Due to commuting restriction during the Coronavirus lock down Ed decided to share his culinary experience with the Sid Valley community, all from the comfort of his own home in Sidford.

So far Ed and Nikkie have been overwhelmed by the response, Ed said: "It's gone down really well, we've got one customer ordering from us tonight who tried us out yesterday and just had to have more tonight.

"We've reduced the chilli content slightly from the traditonal recipe and we are using as much local produce as possible. We also like to show off the flavours of our locally sourced meat, rather than just plastering it in spices."

Ed caters to a variety of dietary requirements and all dishes are clearly marked to help those who are avoiding meat, dairy, gluten or nuts.

The Shawarma Stop is open Wednesday to Sunday, between 5pm and 9pm. If you would like to book your order phone 07551416110. All meals must be collected.
