Happiness and emotion as visitor restrictions are eased at care homes
There have been heart-warming scenes at Doveleigh Care homes as residents were reunited with family members they hadn't seen for several months.
From Monday, May 17, every resident has been allowed to nominate up to five visitors who can come and see them regularly. Visiting relatives have to take lateral flow tests on arrival and wear PPE, but the relief and happiness at seeing loved ones again has outweighed these minor inconveniences.
Cathy, spending time with her mother Mary, said she loves visiting and was quite happy to don any PPE needed to ensure her mum's safety. Mary said it was lovely to see her family any time.
Another resident, Eileen, said she thinks it's essential to have visitors – she felt 'a bit like being in prison' when she could not see anyone. Eileen is pleased with how organised the home is in arranging for people to visit at different times.
Joyce Hull said it was so nice to see her son Martin in her room and is looking forward to going out for a walk when allowed. Samantha Evens, Senior Manager with Doveleigh Care, said visits, when permitted, have been very carefully managed throughout the Covid pandemic. She said: "Each home has its own designated visiting areas, or residents can see their visitors in their rooms if they prefer. "Reuniting families in my view has been amazing, we have missed seeing them too. I look forward to us seeing more visits happen in the future, if guidance allows."
