Green fingered residents at a local care home have been enjoying a newly created outdoor space and vegetable patch in their very own back garden.

With trips out restricted during lockdown, a specially designed garden retreat was set up in the grounds of Arcot House Care Home in Sidmouth.

Senior Manager at Doveleigh Care, Samantha Evens, said: "Residents previously used to join the Salvation Army club, where they had the opportunity to attend one of our Activity Co-ordinator's personal allotment.

"However, due to the pandemic, we have now set up our own garden shed, which they have named 'The Retreat', where residents can sit and have a natter and cup of tea outside.

"There are also raised beds and an allotment in the garden where residents have been growing their own vegetables. We used these for a meal to celebrate National Wine Day."

She added: "The residents really enjoy taking part in national days and also having their own allotment.

"We hope, in the near future, to be able to invite people to see and try our home grown vegetables."
