Is Sidmouth England's second-best performing place for giving Covid vaccinations?

By Philippa Davies 26th Feb 2021

It's being reported that Sidmouth is the second best performing place in England when it comes to rolling out the Covid vaccination programme.

The Mail Online has published figures on the districts where the highest percentage of the total population has had the first dose of the vaccine – and Sidmouth Town came second only to Yarmouth & Freshwater on the Isle of Wight.

The numbers are based on the Mail Online's own analysis of NHS England statistics, going up to February 21, and the Office for National Statistics population estimates for each district.

The figure for Sidmouth Town is 57.33 per cent of the whole population – only slightly below the Isle of Wight district, which has 57.46 per cent.

Sidmouth Sidford has vaccinated 46.86 of its residents, according to the Mail Online.

Its analysis showed that the worst performing districts were in cities, with areas of Sheffield, Manchester, Nottingham, Leeds and Gloucester having vaccinated only between three and six per cent of residents.

A report published yesterday indicated that across Devon as a whole, just under 40 per cent had had their jab, with just over 99 per cent of those over 70 having received the first dose.
