Sidmouth-based personal trainer Lauren Clapp from LC Fitness writes a regular blog for this site, each with a video demonstrating different exercises. Here's her latest instalment.

Well, we are four weeks into another lockdown, and this one definitely seems much harder.

It's fine on the beautiful cold, crisp sunny days, but when its wet and cold we all feel miserable.

It is all too easy through to become 'couch potatoes,' lazing around on the sofa, eating junk whilst binge-watching the latest reality show or Netflix series. Or, even if you are working, slouching over the dining room table, or balancing the laptop on your knees.

All of this has a detrimental effect on your back, posture, and health.

It is so important to keep moving. Getting up regularly, going for walks, stretching those legs, and probably more importantly your back. Lower back pain is a common occurrence these days as we are all leading a more sedentary lifestyle and can have a really big impact on quality of life. Constant pain and lack of sleep can have a detrimental effect on your general health and will also impact on mental health too.

When was the last time you were able to touch your toes? Regular stretching can improve flexibility hugely, which will then have a knock-on effect with your general mobility.

Stretching out your back is something you can do from home, really easily, and I recommend trying to do this each day.

I've recorded a few exercises to help keep you flexible – give it a try and let me know how you get on.

Although the studio is closed, I am still working – offering online memberships and I can still do 1:1 training outside. If you want some help and advice on your general fitness, drop me a line.

Stay safe,

Lauren
