The district council is set to hold a meeting next week to consider if Sidmouth's Roxburgh Car Park should have lower fees and shorter stays than other car parks in the area.

It comes after it was decided that Sidmouth's Ham (East and West), Manor Road, Roxburgh, Mill Street, and Manor Pavilion car park charges would rise to £2 per hour from April.

The meeting on Tuesday 22 March will be to consider whether Sidmouth's Roxburgh Car Park should be a 'shopper's' car park, with users only able to park for a maximum of two hours, and charges set at 75p for 30 minutes and £1.50 per hour.

East Devon District Council Leader Cllr Paul Arnott said: "Cabinet had always intended to ensure that there was a shoppers' car park in Sidmouth at an hourly rate of £1.50 rather than £2, but in the short time we had before budget setting last month the detail was still being sense-checked.

"It had always been our intention for the Roxburgh to be designated at the lower rate and we had open discussions about how we could do this which we believe this proposal that will be discussed next week will deliver on."
