The owners of The Bagel Shop in Sidmouth are planning to open a new café and sandwich takeaway at the Arches on the Esplanade.

They've applied to East Devon District Council for a change of use, from the former Jurassic Interpretation Centre to a food outlet, providing light lunches and ice creams on the seafront.

The property was opened up for a new lease earlier this year by Sidmouth Town Council.

A statement with the application says the proposals will help to enhance a prominent part of the seafront by putting a currently vacant building back into use, increase numbers of people within the locality, and would be an asset to the seafront community.

It adds that the proposals will not alter the overall character and architectural value of the building and there will be no permanent changes internally. The proposed signage, for which planning permission is being applied, the is completely removable.

The statement says there will only be 'minimal' detrimental effect of noise or smell to any neighbours, and provisions will be put into place to prevent additional litter.

The application will be determined by East Devon District Council at a later date.
