Excitement is growing in Sidmouth as the town's carnival is just over two weeks away and today the carnival committee announced the route and some exciting new details.

Sidmouth carnival returns on Saturday, September 21, following on from a wet carnival the previous year.

The procession starts at Woolbrook at 8pm going down through Temple Street, High Street and along the seafront.

Road closures will be put in place and advanced warning signs will be put up.

A spokesperson for the carnival committee told Sidmouth Nub News: "The whole committee are excited for Sidmouth Carnival's return however, without the support of the public we won't be able to continue for years to come. Please donate what you can and if you can't donate money please donate your time.

"The day of the carnival starts fairly early for some of the Sidmouth Carnival team with cones out on the roads at around 7am.

"The cones are there to stop cars from parking - if there is a cone there please do not park as this means the larger floats, such as Sid Vale and Nunsford Nutters, will not be able to pass through."

The carnival committee team will gather at Woolbrook at around 3pm to get the ball rolling.

A member of the group will be stood waiting the arrival of floats to begin ushering them into place and other team members will check out buckets to collectors and accompany the judges.

This year the carnival will be joined by the Devon Truck Show which will be leading the carnival down through the town followed by the emergency services and the Sidmouth Royal Party.

Sidmouth's Carnival Queen this year will be Hope Baker and the carnival's Princess this year will be Morgan Raymont.
