New shop to open on Sidmouth High Street
A new shop will soon be opening on Sidmouth High Street.
Oxfam are returning to Sidmouth, where the organisation was the first charity to open a shop.
The new charity shop will open at 49 High Street towards the end of October and the shop is looking for people volunteer as well as advertising two paid positions.
Two years ago the charity closed its shop in Temple Street due to a lack of footfall, the charity is hopeful that the new High Street location will attract more customers.
Rachel Blyth, the manager of Oxfam's shops in Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton had this to say: "We're really excited to be returning to Sidmouth, our absence was never really intended we just needed to find the right premises.
"We're looking for a full-time shop manager, a deputy manager and a team of volunteers. One of the great things about Oxfam is that it empowers local volunteers by providing training and education on retail management."
As well as stocking clothes, music, DVDs, games, kitchenalia and decorative items the store will also stock Oxfam's Fair-trade range.
Responding to criticism that the town already has too many charity shops Rachel said: "I'm very excited about our return to Sidmouth, we were there from the beginning and we're not just another charity shop we were the first charity shop in the town.
"We're really looking forward to opening and bringing some more people into the town. Not only that, our message is to reduce, reuse and recycle. Buying second hand is good for the environment."
The two management positions are paid roles, the closing date for applications is Thursday, September 5.
