For the first time in two months, no new positive cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Devon.

The latest lab-confirmed case counts and rates published by the Government on Monday evening showed that 2,684 confirmed cases in the UK, none were in Devon.

Not since March 14 has there been a day without new positive coronavirus case been recorded in the county, with no new in cases in either the Devon County Council, Torbay or Plymouth areas.

There were three new cases recorded yesterday in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

The last days have seen no new cases recorded in West Devon, Torridge, Torbay, North Devon, and Exeter, and just one case in Mid Devon, East Devon, Teignbridge and the South Hams – the latter following eight days without one. West Devon has gone 11 days without a positive case.

And Torridge is now the district council area in the whole of England which has the lowest positive case rate per 100,000 people, following more positive cases in Mendip and Hastings having been recorded over the weekend. In Torridge, just 51.8 people in every 100,000 have tested positive, compared to 257.5 per 100,000 across England.

In total, the Government figures show that 100,678 tests were carried out on 67,409 people, of which 2,684 were positive, the lowest number of confirmed cases since March 30. Of those testing positive, just 980 were pillar 1 cases were someone was hospitalised, the lowest figure since March 23.
