Plans to demolish a cottage and build a single-storey two-bed house off Temple Street in Sidmouth have been submitted again after being refused earlier this year

The cottage, which is in "poor condition", is located in the grounds of the Grade II listed early 19th century Ascerton House.

East Devon District Council refused the previous application over concerns the size of the new house would have detracted from the significance of the listed building and that it would have been too close to its neighbour to the north.

The plans have now been modified and resubmitted. Changes include cutting the new house into the slope to ensure the overall height is lower than that of Ascerton House, and moving it further south.

The new house would have brick walls and a slate roof, parking, gardens to the side and rear and improved access from Ascerton Road.

The application is awaiting a decision from the district council.
