A man believed to be in possession of a knife was at the centre of a police search operation along the coast at Branscombe yesterday afternoon (21 July).

A police helicopter helped to locate the man, following concerns for his welfare, and bring him to safety.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Police were called at 4.05pm yesterday following concerns for the welfare of a man in Branscombe.

"The man had left his home and was believed to be in possession of a knife.

"An area search was carried out by officers with the assistance of the police helicopter.

"The man, in his 30s, was located on a coastal path in the Berry Cliff area by the helicopter crew a short time later.

"He was arrested on suspicion of possession of a knife in a public place but later released without charge."
