Western Power Distribution has apologised to people in Sidmouth after power cuts left many households without electricity today.

There have been many reports on local social media channels about the power cut and the impact it has had.

In a tweet this afternoon a spokesperson for WPD said: "Engineers are working on a powercut affecting customers in Sidmouth, EX10, and estimate to restore all supplies by 5pm.

"Our apologies for any inconvenience."

Some residents have reported that the power is back on but there may be further disruption.

In another tweet the WPD spokesperson said: "We are still working on the fault and so it may yet go off and back on a few times more. Just delay turning back on any sensitive equipment for that reason."
