It's being reported that an elderly woman was found dead in a flat in Sidford that caught fire in the early hours of this morning (Friday, December 18).

Fire crews were reportedly called to a ground-floor property in School Street after an alarm sounded, and found a small fire in a bedroom. Police and ambulance crews also attended.

It's understood that they also found a woman in her 70s who was deceased, and that her death is not being treated as suspicious.

No details of her identity have been released, but it's reported that her next of kin have been informed.
