Residents encouraged to vote on Exmouth Neighbourhood Plan at referendum on 21 March

If a majority of those that vote in the referendum are in favour of the Plan, then it will be 'made' and become part of the Development Plan for East Devon

On 21 March 2019, local residents can vote at a referendum for the Exmouth Neighbourhood Plan, which Exmouth Town Council has produced in consultation with the local community. Exmouth's Neighbourhood Plan includes policies that will influence how planning applications in the town are determined up until 2031.

Voters will be asked to consider the following question '"Do you want East Devon District Council to use the Neighbourhood Plan for Exmouth to help it decide planning applications in the neighbourhood area?".

If more people vote 'yes' than 'no' in this referendum, then East Devon District Council will 'make' the plan and it will become part of the development plan for East Devon.

Should the referendum be successful, it will be the 15th Neighbourhood Plan to be adopted in East Devon.

The council would like to encourage all residents eligible to vote in the area to ensure they turn out to vote on the day.

Polling stations for the referendum are open from 7am to 10pm and are all in Exmouth, as follows:

Withycombe Rugby Club, Hulham Road

Littleham Community Hall, West Down Lane

Clayton House Community Centre, Salterton Road

Holy Ghost Church Hall, Raddenstile Lane

All Saints Church Hall, Exeter Road

Baptist Church, 8 Victoria Road, Exmouth

Liverton Copse Community Centre, Prince of Wales Drive

St John The Evangelist Church Hall, Withycombe Village Road

The Plan is the culmination of over three year's hard work by volunteers from the local community. 

Cllr Bruce de Saram, East Devon's Lead Councillor for Neighbourhood Planning, said:

I send my sincere thanks to my colleagues in the Neighbourhood Plan Steering Group and all concerned with production of the Exmouth Neighbourhood Plan, which has now reached the important referendum stage. Exmouth is the largest town in the district, with over 35,000 residents representing 25% of the total district population. The Plan is the result of extensive community consultation and, if approved at referendum, would devolve real powers to the local community to decide how they want their settlements to develop over the years ahead. I encourage all residents to read the Plan and take part in this exercise of local democracy by voting on 21 March.
