The Sidholme Hotel, a Grade II listed building, has gone onto the property market with a guide price of £1,900,000.
On July 6 the owners, Methodist Guild Holidays Ltd, announced that the Sidmouth property would not reopen.
A spokesperson for the hotel operator said: "We are saddened to share that Methodist Guild Holidays Ltd have taken the difficult decision that Sidholme Hotel will not reopen.
"Our colleagues at Sidholme Hotel have been made aware of the closure, in what has been a challenging time.
"All customers with bookings are being contacted by the Hotel Manager to discuss a booking transfer or refund.
"Staff and management at Sidholme Hotel, along with Methodist Guild Holidays Ltd, would like to thank customers for their continued support over the years and their understanding during this difficult time."
The hotel is being marketed by commercial property agents Savills. The Grade II listed main house provides 46 en suite bedrooms and includes many original Victorian features including a Victorian music room.
There is an additional accommodation block which houses a further 25 bedrooms. The hotel also boast a range of leisure activities, including an indoor swimming pool.
A staff accommodation block is also on site as well as three bedroom owner's bungalow.
The freehold property also includes 5.2 acres of grounds.
A spokesperson for Savills said: "Originally dating from 1826, Sidholme Hotel is an imposing Grade II* Listed building with many impressive architectural features, of particular note is the Music Room with neoclassical style interior with fine chandeliers and vaulted ceiling.
"In addition to the main building a further block provides guest bedrooms. There is also a separate staff accommodation block. Owners' or manager's accommodation is provided in a 3 bedroom bungalow on site.
"A detached building houses the indoor swimming pool. There are also a range of additional outbuildings including garages and sheds."
A local group, Save Sidmouth's Hidden Gem, launched a campaign earlier this year to buy the hotel. That bid is still believed to be on the table.
