Sidmouth's Norman Lockyer Observatory saw as many as 120 people attend a recent stargazing event.

Free of charge, the 'Sunset Walk and Storytelling Under the Stars' event was held on 7 May and sponsored by Active Devon.

The evening began with a walk up to Salcombe Cliffs and then to the Frogstone to take in the sea views. Then, the group returned to the observatory and sat around a fire-pit to listen to stories about the night sky.

Constellation myths with Janet Dowling (NLO)

A spokesperson for the Norman Lockyer Observatory said: "There was a bright first quarter moon in the sky and, as the sky darkened, the brightest stars and constellations were pointed out to the visitors by David Strange (NLO Chairman).

"The telescopes and domes were then opened up for telescopic views of the heavens including the Moon, and some distant globular star clusters, some 34,000 light years [away] in distance."
