The Sidmouth branch of Bradleys has presented money raised by a Euro 2020 sweepstake to local brain tumour patient Charlie Gwillim, for donation to the charity Brain Tumour Research.

The estate agent held a sweepstake across several of its 30 South West branches, with the Sidmouth office coming out on top.

Staff wanted to donate the £225 they raised (including Gift Aid) to a charity 'very close to their hearts', and chose Charlie – a well-known and hugely popular figure in the town.

Charlie, 29, lives locally with her fiancé Rob and used to run a successful embroidery shop. But in 2019, having suffered from migraines, Charlie went to the opticians. The optician referred Charlie to a hospital scan, which revealed a brain tumour.

Charlie was operated days after receiving the diagnosis and a tumour the size of a tennis ball was removed. But the remaining part of it – the size of a thumbnail - could not be taken out because it would have left her in a vegetative state.

Two weeks later it was revealed that Charlie had a stage 3 terminal brain tumour – and it is still the same size, despite treatment.

Ever since, Charlie has been involved in fundraising for the Brain Tumour Research charity, particularly the Sidmouth Wears A Hat events.

'Strength, positivity and an infectious smile'

Bradleys Sidmouth manager Ben Morgan said: "Despite the diagnosis, Charlie astounds everyone with her strength, positivity and infectious smile.

"Brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer. Everybody was shocked to discover Charlie's diagnosis, and we will continue to support her.

"We would love for others to make a donation if they are able to. No matter how big or small, it all will help go towards this incredibly important cause"
