Located in the heart of what would normally be a buzzing seaside town on the brink of high season; Sidmouth's The White Horse Cafe is reopening its doors today (7 May).

The restaurant, which has been shut for the past seven weeks due to the Covid-19 crisis, is hoping that by offering a takeaway service customers can enjoy their food safely whilst bringing in some much-needed business.

A staff member at The White Horse, Jalandhar Omari spoke to Nub News and explained how the pandemic has affected them.

"It has been really difficult," he said.

"This is the time that business would normally be picking up; from around Easter to September, but we've had nothing.

"It's extremely hard.

"We've decided to reopen today for takeaway, with strict social distancing measures in place to keep customers safe.

"It's been good so-far and we're happy. A few people have walked and are surprised to see us open.

"We want to tell customers that they won't have to queue for ages for their food, as we provide a quick, efficient service; so people shouldn't worry about long waiting times."

The White Horse Cafe is open from 12pm - 4pm Monday to Thursday and from 12pm - 7pm on Friday and Saturday.
