A Sidmouth residential home is the first in the UK to be rated as 'Outstanding' by the Care Quality Commission (CQC) across all five criteria for the second time running.

Arcot House, run by Doveleigh Care Ltd, received the unannounced inspection back in January, with the unprecedented results published earlier this month.

Read our interview with the manager here.

In it is an exemplary report of the highest possible standards, setting the gold standard within the industry for other residential homes to follow.

The report details one women, who is over 100 year's old, and is in better health now than when she moved to the home five years ago.

"People who used the service expressed unreserved satisfaction and spoke highly of all staff and services provided," the report stated.

It went on: "Residents were offered a vast array of activities both at the service and in the local community.

"People, staff and relatives all came together as a community and built friendships. The whole team were proud and privileged to support people with end of life care."

The five criteria of a CQC inspection are; safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. Arcot House was deemed 'exceptional' in all areas.
