Sidmouth county councillor Stuart Hughes has released a new record poking fun at politicians in the run up to the General Election.

The track from Stuart, aka Bigg Ben and the Remixiteers, is called Loony Loony 2019 (The House of Commons Steeplechase), and is a re-imagining of Billy Idol's sixties classic Mony Mony.

Big Benn/Stuart Hughes, who is a former member of the Monster Raving Loony Party, explained: "I would like to see the download single make it to No.10 as after all everyone wants to get to No.1. I would hope that we can turn back the clock to the time when politics was fun and hopefully this recording will at least put a smile on a few politicians faces in the run up to December 12."

Here's what Dave Maughan, the producer of Face Records Newcastle, said: "Loony Loony is a cover of the 60s' classic Mony Mony, with new lyrics topical to the run up to the General Election.

"It's light hearted, and suggests that in the run up to a general election, all politicians behave like raving loonies. The enigmatic Bigg Ben Stuart Hughes (formerly a Raving Loony himself) is well qualified to make this judgement.

"On the other hand the B-side, The Pundits' Song, is a tad more cynical. Our favourite political journalists and pundits seem to know so much about politics, why aren't they running the country?"
