A total of 52 crimes were recorded in Sidmouth last month, according to the latest police figures.

During May 2021 the commonest offence was criminal damage with 10 incidents, followed by public order offences – nine were recorded.

There were three reports of violence causing injury, and eight of violence without injury. Six offences of stalking and harassment were recorded, and five drug offences – three involving trafficking and two cases of drug possession.

There were two shoplifting incidents, one bicycle theft and four other theft offences.

The remaining four crimes are recorded as 'other offences'.

The figures are listed in the latest Sidmouth Police newsletter, out today (Thursday, June 10).

It also contains a warning about fake emails, purporting to be from the Post Office or parcel delivery firms, asking for a shipping fee to deliver a package to the recipient.

These emails often contain a link leading to a fake website. The police advice is not to click on any links, but to contact the delivery organisation directly if you think you do have a parcel on the way.
