Devon & Cornwall Police is currently recruiting special constables.

Special constables are volunteers who help the police in their spare time, and after training have the same powers and similar duties as regular police officers.

They are involved in 'all aspects of policing'. This includes acting on emergency calls, investigating reported crimes, apprehending, arresting and interviewing suspects, collecting evidence at crime scenes, supporting victims, and more.

On 12 May there will be a virtual awareness event to find out more about the role and hear from serving special constables about what it's like.

A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said: "Special constables, our volunteer police officers, get a real feeling of achievement from helping others while supporting regular officers and contributing to the local community.

"They give a minimum 16 hours of their time each month, have the same powers as police officers, and undergo dedicated training and development."

How can I apply?

The window for applications closes at 11.55pm on Sunday 29 May.
