East Devon District Council is removing two of Sidmouth's splash wall flood gates today (Friday 2 September) for refurbishment.

The flood gates reportedly need refurbishing as they no longer close properly.

The district council has said that the gaps left in the splash wall will be filled with sandbags in the event of a storm.

A spokesperson said: "Two of the splash wall flood gates in Sidmouth will be removed today (Friday 2 September) to be refurbished. They should be back within two weeks.

"They require refurbishment because they no longer close properly and it is important they are functional for the winter.

"Although we aren't expecting any sea storms, should that change, the gaps will be filled with sandbags."
