Investigative works on the sea wall at Jacob's Ladder beach are set to begin next week, the district council has said.

Contractors will also be moving beach shingle next to the sea wall and removing it from the platform.

The works will start on Monday 28 March and are expected to take a week to complete.

A spokesperson for East Devon District Council said: "From Monday, 28 March, East Devon District Council's contractors will be undertaking some investigative works of the sea wall at Jacob's Ladder beach in Sidmouth as part of our capital bid programme.

"Works are expected to take one week and will involve digging down and exposing the sea wall in order to fully inspect it to allow for the repair to be designed and planned for works following the summer period.

"Works will also include an excavator on the beach moving beach shingle next to the sea wall, and removing from the platform.

"We apologise in advance for any inconvenience caused during this week."
