Firefighters from Sidmouth have been helping to tackle a blaze at a business park in East Devon.

The fire at Hill Barton Business Park in Clyst St Mary started in a shredder at about 1.15pm yesterday afternoon (Friday, July 23), and spread to a woodpile.

People living nearby were advised to close their windows to keep out the smoke from the blaze.

At 6pm on Friday evening there were 13 fire appliances and support vehicles at the scene.

The operation continued throughout Friday night, with relief crews being called out from across Devon and west Somerset.

They worked with staff from the site to make fire breaks and extinguish the flames with compressed air foam.

The heavy rain this morning (Saturday, July 24) aided their efforts, and by midday the response was scaled down to two fire engines, a water bowser, incident command unit and two aerial ladder platforms.

The latest news was that the crews were making progress containing the fire, and preventing hot embers from spreading to nearby buildings.
