Plans to rebrand Sidmouth have been given the full backing of the town's business community.

At a Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce Breakfast event held earlier this week Sidmouth Town Council and Voyage Travel Marketing, based in Sidmouth, unveiled plans to rebrand the Visit Sidmouth website and the town guide to the town's business community.

The rebrand proposals, which were completed in record time to ensure the rebrand is in place for next year's tourism season, should future proof the town's tourism offering.

Visit Sidmouth's new logo features the slogan 'Devon's Coast Is Calling'.

The vice chairman of Sidmouth Chamber of Commerce, Sally Mynard, said: "There was a lot of positive feedback regarding the presentation.

"The chamber plans to support the town council with this rebrand by encouraging those who advertise in the town guide to continue with their support, as the whole town will benefit from this in future."

Sidmouth councillor and vice chair of the council's Tourism and Economy Committee Louise Thompson said: "It's a very exciting development for STC and we have been delighted to create this fresh new positioning for the town in conjunction with the exceptionally talented team at Voyage Travel Marketing - who are also passionate about Sidmouth - being based right here in the town.

"We believe it signals a step change in the way we are able to support the key economy in our coastal town and allow us to compete with other well known and highly regarded destinations."

In developing the new brand for Visit Sidmouth the team behind the rebrand were mindful to respect the town's 'traditional foundations' while creating something fresh and modern which appeals to everyone and can be used promote the town online.

Louise and Jessica hope the new brand communicates the unique qualities of Sidmouth and that the wider community, including businesses, can get behind the rebrand with pride.

Louise added: "It's very much a start point in terms of creating a strong foundation for promotion going forwards to represent the town as a destination with cohesion and progression."

Voyage Travel Marketing's Jessica McDonald said: "We know how vital the tourism industry is to Sidmouth's economy so this is one way that we were able to give back to the town that we love. This is just the beginning of what's to come.

"I was a visitor to Sidmouth once and chose to live here because I fell in love with the destination. We work with tourism businesses internationally and Sidmouth is our favourite place to be which is why we also based our business here.

"Our business employs several people locally so there's one small example of the impact of tourism."

The rebrand is based on five brand pillars:

A Soul-Soothing Coastal Reboot: "The call of the sea is what draws most to this majestic coastal town where guests yearn for the mindfulness and wellbeing of a soul-soothing retreat that gladly embraces its own 'time zone'.

Do Everything or Nothing at All: "Sidmouth is full of life – walk, bike, splash, play, or relax. Our plentiful active and gentle escapes appeal to the young and young at heart. Being here is all about being together and making memories for generations (with generations)."

A Not-So-Hidden National Treasure: "Hidden in plain view, Sidmouth is a vibrant seaside community set on Devon's Jurassic Coast World Heritage Site, within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty... but this national treasure is closer than you think."

Green in Colour, Green in Nature: "Lush, green, verdant—however you describe our coastal flora and fauna, one can uncover award-winning gardens, active wide-open spaces and sustainable travel that just feels good for the soul."

An Endearing Devonshire Charm: "Sidmouth is young at heart but offers an endearing and timeless Devonshire charm. You'll find a subtle pride in our county and region, with a friendly but vibrant local feel and comforting sense of community."
