A Sidmouth-based company that makes cosmetics and edible seasonings from seaweed has won an award for its sustainability practices.

Ebb Tides Seaweeds was the joint winner of the 'Sustainability' category in this year's Exeter Living Awards, alongside renewable gas and electricity company Ixora Energy.

Tony Coulson founded Ebb Tides Seaweeds in 2016, and it is now 80% owned by founder and director of Sidmouth Gin John Hammond.

Mr Hammond said: "It's an amazing feeling to have won.

"We moved to Church Street in January last year and gained the formal SALSA accreditation then we got a great taste star for our sea salad shaker so this was a real boost to everything we've done so far since moving."

The director of Ebb Tides Seaweeds, Ellie Hattrell, harvests the seaweed for its products by hand from the local area.

Sidmouth Gin and Ebb Tides Seaweeds products are available from The Dairy Shop on Church Street. Click here to visit the Sidmouth Gin website or here for the Ebb Tides Seaweeds website.
