Sidmouth street artist inspires local youngsters
Sidmouth artist Steve McCracken, who created the latest piece of street art on the Wallspace billboard in the Ham East Car Park, has been working with young people in the town on another art installation.
Sharing his street art skills at Sidmouth Youth Centre and Sidmouth Skate Park, youngsters created their own paste-ups as part of an installation that was hosted at White and Sons Shoe shop in Sidmouth and learnt how to use spray paints.
Speaking about the paste-ups in the above video, Steve said: "It's a form of temporary street art, so painting images onto paper ... they've got that temporary vibe, it's not going to last forever, with literally just the intention to brighten up people's days."
His latest street art is entitled 'Nature Overcomes/Kelp Our Oceans' and was produced on scene during Sidmouth Sea Fest in May.
It features The Kraken as it 'rides in from Sidmouth beach over a sea of bird head chaos, rising its tentacles up high into spiral wave shapes representing the power of the ocean', and was made using spray paint and ink over three sessions.
Sidmouth Wallspace is a physical public outdoor gallery and is a collaborative project between Sidmouth School of Art, the Coastal Community Hub and David Shrigley, supported by Arts Council England and Sidmouth Town Council.
